The forth mobility within IQ Mentoring project was organized in Hatfield, UK, during 6-10 February 2017 by Kaleidoscope Enterprise Limited.
The theme of this blending mobility was Community and Mentoring Best Practices. During the 5 days all participants shared experiences and best practices focusing on different mentoring activities addressing the needs of various target groups such as: Elderly, Young people, Parents, teachers, Roma communities (Especially in Romania and Slovakia), remote rural communities. All participants got involved in interesting indoor and outdoor activities using various methods such as ice breaking exercises based on songs and dances, formal presentations, group exercises, debates, workshops.
The mobility program included visits and outdoor activities as well. The visit to Onslow St Audrey’s School included a presentation on social inclusion for disadvantaged pupils highlighting different approach to deal with students with challenging behavior. An example of team development workshop was the visit to the Community Gardens St Albans. Participants were taken to a gardening project where different groups, who use horticulture, outlined the benefits to work, plant and harvest vegetables and flowers for the use of their family and community. The mobility included also a visit to Hertford County Council, hosted by CDA Herts. Participants and their host discussed about affordable housing, community buildings, and support for the community village members giving information and advice to trustees on governance, health and safety, child protection. CDA is also providing support for Skills development for employment and training for disadvantaged groups including Eastern European, Women and Roma, assisting them with their English.
At the end of the program participants acknowledged that this mobility helped them to improve their skills and helped them to be more motivated to get more involved in their community in order to advance equality, transparency and social inclusion of disadvantaged groups.
